Surf
A remote, wave-rich bay, consistent, uncrowded, and alive with energy.
Tucked away on Panama’s Pacific coast, Morrillo is one of Central America’s most consistent and uncrowded surf zones. Thanks to its rare south-facing orientation, it enjoys maximum swell exposure, catching nearly every pulse that rolls in from the Pacific. No matter the season or size, there’s usually something breaking and often, it’s world-class.
This 2km stretch of raw coastline is sculpted to perfection, offering two punchy sandbars and a pair of point breaks a playful right and a long, wrapping left making it a dream setup for all levels of surfers, from barreled-out chargers to smooth-gliding cruisers.
Best tides vary: mid to low works well for the sandbars, high for the right point, and low for the left. Mornings are typically glassy with offshore winds lasting until 3–4pm, and during the dry season (December to April), you’ll often score offshore conditions all day long. Crowds? Usually just you and your friends.
Bring a quiver if you can, the variety here is worth it. If not, we’ve got you covered.
Fast. Hollow. Raw. Iconic. Versatile. Heavy when it turns on.
This is Morrillo’s most iconic break—a constantly shifting sandbar that, with the right swell and tide, delivers world-class barrels just steps from shore. It breaks mostly left, but when it really lights up, it can throw slabby, heavy rights that catch even the more experienced chargers surfers off guard. On big days and with the right direction, it can turn into what some call the Panamanian Pipeline—fast, hollow, and unforgiving. But it’s not all bite. On other days, it offers wedgy rights, playful lefts, and rippable walls, making it a favorite for both warm-ups and full-send sessions. It’s a wave that rewards those who watch it, learn it, and then commit.
Tidal Magic—Making the Most of the Shifting Sands
Both sandbars work with all types of tides: high, mid, and low. The shifting sands create perfect windows of opportunity, giving you the chance to catch 30-60 minutes of pure perfection when the conditions align. Being beachfront means you’re ideally positioned to take advantage of these ever-changing tides and make the most out of every session, no matter what time of day.

Fast. Punchy. A little more forgiving.
Don’t let the name fool you—the South Sandbar still throws. It’s a fast, hollow wave that breaks mostly right, though it can offer some solid, barreling lefts when the sand lines up. While it shares the same raw energy as its northern twin, this sandbar is a touch more manageable, making it the go-to when the North gets too heavy or wild. It still packs power, with tight takeoffs and racing sections, but offers more makeable barrels and room to move.
A favorite for those who want something serious—but just slightly less punishing.

Long. Forgiving. Surprisingly powerful.
This is our go-to beginner-friendly wave—a long, mellow left that lines the southern curve of the bay. On smaller days, it's the perfect place to learn, cruise, or refine your style with easy takeoffs and plenty of space to ride. But don’t let the softness fool you—when a solid swell hits, the left point can turn on with real power. It walls up, sections, barrels, and reforms, offering long, wrapping rides that challenge even experienced surfers. Whether you’re just starting out or chasing down long rides on bigger days, the left point is all about flow and possibility.

Long. Fast. Playfully powerful.
Located at the northern end of the bay, the right point is a dependable wave that comes to life even on smaller swells. It’s less hollow than the sandbars but still delivers fast, punchy walls with surprising drive and energy—perfect for high-speed turns and rail work. The wave stretches out along the reef, offering a long, flowing ride with room to move. On the inside, you’ll often find a natural air section, making it a favorite for performance surfers when conditions line up. Best on a mid tide with a touch of west in the swell.
